This WW1 Memorial is situated on the east wall of the north transept. It was unveiled by Reverend G. L. Gwilliam on April 10 1920. (My appreciation and thanks to the Church Wardens for allowing me access to photograph this Memorial)  Click here for a closer view of the names

Revd. Charles Lemuel Gwillam vicar of  Heworth. The Revd Gwillam established the St Aidan's Mission Hall at Wardley Colliery in 1920. He opened the St. Oswald's Hall at Bill Quay and in 1921 he re-opened the old National School at High Heworth as St. Cuthbert's Mission. He also used the empty Heworth Hall as a Parish Activity Centre.
Mr. Gwilliam died suddenly of pneumonia in November 1928. His tomb is near the south-east wall of the church
